GHOTES has reserved a block of 10 rooms at the Best Western in Exmore,
from arrival on June 5 to departure on June 8 at a rate of $79.99 per night. Non-smoking rooms, either 1 king bed per room or 2 double beds.
Rooms can be reserved by calling the Best Western (757-442-7378) and
asking for the GHOTES genealogy rate. Must be reserved by May 30--after
that the rooms are released. Free internet in the rooms.

Wednesday June 5.
5:00 PM Opening Reception and conference check in.  Ker Place, Onancock, Virginia

Thursday June 6

9:30 am – 10:00 am: Welcome and Introductions. Remembering Frances Latimer.
10:00 am – 11:00 am: Malaika Mitchell, Frances Latimer’s Life for Me Ain't No Crystal Stair
11:00 am – 11:20 am: Break.*
11:20 am -12:45 pm: David Scott, ES Land Historian and Genealogist:  “The Story of Savage's Neck: A History from the Land”

12:45 pm – 1:45 pm: Lunch on site

1:45 pm – 3:00 pm Renee M. Savits, Project Coordinator, Virginia State Library: “Civil War 150 Legacy Project”

10:45 am – noon: Greg Crawford, Local Records Program Manager, Library of Virginia.  “Stories of the Eastern Shore found in the Accomack and Northampton County court records.”

Noon – 1:00pm: Lunch on site

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Jean Raleigh, Winterthur Museum: “Families of the 17th Century Chesapeake: Kinship, Religious and Commercial Connections.”
2:15 pm – 3:30 pm: Paul Ewell, Watermen’s Heritage Foundation: “The Evolution of Local Chesapeake Bay Workboats”
3:30 pm - 6:00 pm Open time to visit Courthouses, Library; meet for Discussions, Photo, Data, & Recipe Sharing.

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm: The Ghotes Conference banquet will be at the Island House restaurant in Wachapreague VA. http://www.theislandhouserestaurant.com/

Saturday June 8.

9:00 am – 10:20 am: M.K. Miles, the Miles Files, “History & People of Makemie Monument Park (A159) and Pitt’s Neck (A163).”
10:20 am – 10:40 am: Break.
10:40 am – 12:00 noon: David Hazzard, Virginia State Archeologist for the Tidewater area: “The archeology digs at Rev. Francis Makemie's grave site (1708) on Holden's Creek and the probable site of Capt. John Smith's overnight stay (1608) on Pitt's Creek.”

12:00 noon  -1:15 pm:  Lunch and assemble for field trip.
1:15 pm Depart on field trip to Pitt’s Creek Plantation, Makemie Monument Park, and Saxis Island.
1:15pm  - 2:15 pm Drive to Pitt's Creek Plantation near MD-VA state line
2:15 pm - 3:45 pm Tour of archeology dig & home restoration at Pitt's Creek
3:45 pm - 4:00 pm Drive to Makemie Monument Park on Holden's Creek
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Tour of archeology dig at Makemie Monument Park
5:00 pm - 5:15 pm Drive to Saxis Island
5:15 pm -    (Tea time at M.K. & Linda Miles' Saxis Island house)

Note: The onsite continental breakfasts, lunches, and snacks are included in conference fee.
Tickets for the banquet are not included and may be purchased separately. Guests to the banquet are welcome.
Books and CDs of interest will be available for purchase during all breaks.
